The unpretentious exterior of Georgio's (owned and operated by Toledo's Kamilaris brothers) is unexpected considering its status as a Toledo dining legend. The valet will park your car as you step into a posh setting filled with the sound of cheerful conversations and champagne glasses engaged in a celebratory clink. Your server will help you navigate through the specials as well as the many wines and unusual appetizers - escargot or grape leaves and haloumi cheese from Cyprus, for example - and will be glad to suggest wines to best complement your entrée. If you're lucky you'll catch a dish of herb-crusted salmon dripping in Cajun or dill sauces prepared by George Kamilaris, the chef and co-owner with his brother. Room left? Try the seven-layer chocolate cake.

A long list of specials, depending on what chef Georgio Kamilaris has found attractive in the markets on any given day. As a rule, they're mostly seafood, six or seven choices, fresh-water and salt alike, and all complemented with just the right sauces, never trite, never ordinary. No matter what you envision, it will be delightfully lifted a step or two above your fondest anticipation. Servings are generous, almost too much so for the plates on which they are served. The location, almost on the doorstep of the Valentine Theatre is surely convenient in a reviving downtown.

Georgio's surrounds you with tastes, making the most of its black and white motif and its interesting diversity. Georgio's offers gourmet fare at reasonable prices, including a carefully chosen wine list. Our entire party tipped its various hats to Georgio's sauce preparation for the entire evening. Like the décor, these sauces whispered quality and care. Baby Spring Lamp Chops, were far and away the best lamp chops we have ever had, anywhere.
- Toledo City Paper, May, 1998

"Georgio's started as an intimate downtown restaurant that has now grown to more than double its size without losing its charm. It is easily Toledo's most popular luncheon spot. While the menu has a wide variety of popular international dishes, the Greek heritage of someone in charge is unmistakable. This makes for some wonderfully unexpected new tastes in many dishes that would be bland standbys in other restaurants.

Georgio's Cafe International, downtown Toledo's landmark restaurant, places second in the state for Top Food ratings in the newly released 1998 Zagat Ohio Restaurant Survey. The rest of the state is learning something that Toledoans have known for quite awhile - we have great food in this town, great quality, and good prices.

If you wonder whether downtown Toledo is still alive after 5 p.m., just drop in at Georgio's Cafe International, on North Superior Street just south of Jackson, any weekday evening. Without a reservation, you may have to fall back on the Coney Island next door for a hot dog. But if you do have a reservation, you can count on a great dinner. Not for nothing did the Ohio Zagat Survey, a widely respected restaurant rating guide, call Georgio's one of the state's best restaurants. The presentation has become a mastered art, pleasing to the eye in anticipation of the pleasure of the palate.

You can pace your enjoyment, as you meditate on an entrée to follow, with bite-sized pieces of fresh bread (Georgio makes 80 to 90 loaves, from scratch, every day) slathered with his signature pate. Georgio's very fresh seafood, bought daily from one or more of five suppliers, is the best to be had in these parts. And we're not talking about just a choice or two. You owe it to yourself to make a reservation, gather a carful of friends (valet parking at the front door), and see for yourself why the Zagat survey was on target.
- Toledo Blade, April, 1994

Of 629 restaurants the Zagat survey rates, 83 are in the Toledo area. The highest-rated Toledo restaurant, in terms of food quality, is Georgio's Cafe International on North Superior Street. It received 28 out of a possible 30 points, placing it second place in the state.
